Welcome to the Exp Section! This part of the site features test versions of some pages from my First Encounters Site. The main idea is that I can mess about with different layouts or techniques without messing up the actual website. Some of the things that appear here may never make it to the final version of the site, but others stand a good chance.
At present, all pages featured here are part of my experiments in CSS. I've been intending to produce a CSS version for a while, but avoided it due to the relative lack of support for it on RISC OS. Over the last year, the Open Source web browser NetSurf has been making remarkable progress, to the point that I now feel that standardising on CSS is feasible.
Readers who are familiar with the history of my site will know that I made it HTML 4.01 Transitional compliant back in July 2003. Standards compliance continues to be a priority, and I am considering changing the site so that it is coded to the HTML 4.01 Strict standard. I haven't decided whether to do this for all pages yet, but several of the experimental pages here have been given the treatment.
The majority of pages on the website will just use the main site.css sheet, but some pages will have their own more customised styles as they will have more complex layouts than the rest of the website. Rather than clutter the main stylesheet up with styles that are often only used on one page, these pages will have their own individual stylesheet files.
Please note that all internal (i.e. pointing to other pages in jades.org) links on these pages have been changed to normal text. This is in order to cut down on spurious errors in the logs due to people clicking on links to pages without a test version. To get back here, use your back button.
Also, as some of the pages are based on older versions of those on the main site, not all of the data for the test pages is accurate. The most recent data is in the main FFE Site.
HTML 4.01 Strict version of the review for the Cobra Mark 3, with styles provided by CSS. Once the CSS conversion of the site is complete, all of the ship reviews will use the main site stylesheet, along with a dedicated stylesheet for the ship reviews. The final version of the page will probably not be as elaborate as it is now - the main purpose of this page at the moment is for experimenting with the <SPAN> tag.
Not a particularly inspiring modification, this page is really only here to experiment with link colouring since most of the other experimental pages have had their links deactivated.
This test version of the main page of my FFE site has been changed so that it validates to HTML 4.01 Strict, and uses CSS for all style information.
